RELATIONSHIPS
"Relationships" takes you through the importance of self and setting boundaries. Children will learn emotions and how to "use your words". There is a section that reviews family members, and a part that teaches about community members. There is even a little bit about diversity and introducing the idea that although you may see things one way, others may see things differently.
Hook and Inform
Miss Bee Polite makes an appearance to introduce manners. Students will decide whether behaviors would be good manners, and Miss Bee Polite is there to reinforce their thoughts. It's really cute.

Activity
Duh-duh-du-duuuuh. Superhero Me is in the house!
Make a superhero cape and learn how to protect your physical boundary. Our capes were made out of felt, and they are pretty sturdy. Once the capes were made, Superhero Me, hops into the circle of a hula hoop to learn that this space is theirs to protect and support. Learn to say "no" if someone is in your space and you don't want them there. Always ask others if you can be in their space.

ASSESS
To check understanding, we made a matching game of feelings faces. The little ones were only asked to identify the emotion. Older children played "Memory" with the cards.
Age 3 should be able to use their manners, and to children were guided during the school day to say "please", "thank you", "excuse me", and "I'm sorry" by reminding them that Miss Bee Polite is happy when the these behaviors are exhibited.
The four year olds are expected to successfully wait in line, and use their manners.
Age 5 can draw a family tree that includes their immediate family. They can also wait in line and use their manners.
Age 6 can identify that other students may have different perspectives. When they look at the bunny / duck, count how many see a bunny and how many see a duck. Then discuss that each person sees something different but no one is wrong.
