DO GOODER Some days, I have to take the day to do the good for myself. It's not ideal, and I need to take some time to intentionally find good to do for others even on days when I need time for myself. Sounds counterproductive, but I think in putting more of a focus on others, I may find a sense of fulfillment. As often one does, we may be so internally focused that the day passes without a good deed done. And I am not including general politeness or courtesy. Those are a given and do not extend into the category of good deed. By good deed, I mean an action which improves or uplifts my family, friends, or community in a somewhat significant way. For instance, a note, meal, or my time for someone in need. If my intention is to do good, then I should act with intention. What good do I want to do? Comfort those grieving. Help those who are ill with food or errands. Volunteer for local organizations. Find a need and fill it. | Benjamin Franklin's Daily Schedule Every morning, ask yourself, "What good will I do today?" Every night, ask yourself, "What good have I done today?" Benjamin Franklin was quite a productive man. He concentrated on virtues, ran a junto, invented many things, and wrote much. Take a look at his schedule. His primary aim was to do some good each day. Can you aim to live a better life? |
